About

Jomo Edwards is a singer/songwriter from Austin, Texas. Known for his wry humor, he writes about larger issues, primarily through the minutiae of everyday life. His songs artfully blend his experiences in a small West Texan ranching community with his inquisitiveness about the broader world through his distinct voice.

Jomo’s songwriting talent has earned recognition from prestigious competitions such as the New Song Songwriting Competition and the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. In 2021, he won first place in the esteemed Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest. His music was featured in a 2021 Superbowl advertisement and served as a plot element in Season 3 of the hit TV series ‘Yellowstone.’

Jomo fronts the Austin-based Americana band, Jomo & The Possum Posse, and has performed in clubs, theaters, festivals, and dive bars from New York to Alaska. The band has garnered a dedicated following among old-school lyric enthusiasts, thanks to Jomo’s imaginative songwriting and the band’s dynamic live performances.

In a 2020 episode of The Texas Music Scene, host and songwriter Jack Ingram likened Jomo’s songwriting to legendary artists Todd Snider, Bob Dylan, Jerry Jeff Walker, Steve Earle, Towns Van Zandt, and others. Film critic Frank Moraes noted, “I really like all the music of theirs that I’ve heard… But they are a good deal too interesting to be stars.”

His collection of songs written during the COVID 19 pandemic comprise his newest project, Yesterday’s Coffee. The 11-track album, produced by Gourds/Shinyribs frontman, Kevin Russell, features Shinyribs drummer, Keith Langford, along with Jomo’s long-time collaborator, Jes Clifford, on bass.

In some ways a solo album, in other ways a collaborative record, it’s an introspective romp through the pseudo-psychedelic vortex of the last few years, and it’s his best work yet.
